The most serious hazard at Diamond Beach is the powerful North Atlantic surf. "Sneaker waves" are large waves that surge much further up the beach than expected, with little warning.
Atlantic water temperature is 4–10°C year-round. If swept in, cold water shock causes gasping and rapid incapacitation. Even strong swimmers can drown in seconds.
